Frequently Asked Questions

We're here to prepare you for your visit.

Being prepared for your appointment allows for a smoother process and a more relaxed, comfortable experience during your visit. Our staff will make sure to review your details via phone or email prior to your appointment.

Please bring the following items to your appointment:

  • a list of all medications and allergies.
  • any current glasses or box of contact lenses being worn.

You are welcome to bring a family member or support person to your appointment.

Our optometrists perform a thorough, comprehensive eye exam on all patients. We ensure the visual system and ocular health is properly assessed, which means you can expect the exam to take about 30-40 minutes.

When you come to eye-dentity optical, there are a few things you can expect during your eye exam:

A pre-test screening routine before seeing the optometrist.

This includes measuring any current glasses prescription, screening visual fields, taking eye pressure, and retinal imaging.

The optometrist will review this information and bring you into the exam room to test:

  • Visual acuity (reading the letter chart)
  • Eye muscle movements and pupil reactions
  • Colour vision and depth perception
  • Peripheral vision
  • Refractive error (measuring glasses prescription)
  • Eye focusing system
  • Ocular health check from the outside to inside of the eyes (using a microscope, lenses, and flashlights)

The optometrist will review all test results with you and discuss treatment recommendations for any visual concerns found.

We provide enough time towards the end of the exam for patients to ask questions and understand their visual conditions.

Any prescription recommendations will be communicated by the optometrist to our optical dispensing specialists who will assist you in choosing the perfect optical solution for your individual needs and requirements.

Whilst we do accept optical prescriptions from other optometry practices our preference is to complete a refraction with our practice optometrist to confirm your prescription prior to dispensing your new eyewear. A fee of $30 will apply for this service.

Children aged 15 and under whose parent / guardian hold a valid community service card are entitled to an Enable spectacle subsidy every twelve months. This subsidy can be used as a contribution towards the cost of the eye exam, spectacle frames and optical lenses.

We accept insurance claims from all insurance companies and in most cases can obtain replacement spectacles in a short space of time, by utilising the services of a local Rangiora based ophthalmic glazing lab.

If you have Southern Cross Vision Care membership this will cover the cost of your eye examination and a contribution of up to $500 towards new spectacle frames and/or lenses.

It will depend on the condition of your spectacle frame. Optical frames can fatigue over time and can break without any warning when removing your current lenses. Glazing of your own frame will be carried out on an owners risk basis.

The practice is located with direct access to Blake Street car park offering over 100 spaces allowing up to 120 minutes of free parking.

At eye-dentity optical, we appreciate mutual respect towards the time of our patients and optometrists. Patients arriving late to their appointments can severely delay the following appointments for the rest of the day. Therefore, patients arriving more than 10 minutes late to their appointment will be asked to reschedule for another day.

We kindly ask that you contact our practice at least 24 hours in advance to cancel or reschedule an up-and-coming appointment, otherwise, you will be subject to a cancellation charge.

Our product purchases include frames, lenses, contact lenses and optical accessories. Unfortunately, we do not offer a refund on any product, however, we offer exchanges or credit in the event you are dissatisfied with a product. Details of the exchange or credit will be discussed on a case-by-case basis.
